Tove Jansson, Self-Portrait with the Moomin characters, 1952, Ink, Moomin Characters Collection ©Moomin Characters™
To commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Moomin books, we introduce the profound worldview that underlies the series by reexamining the career of Tove Jansson (1914-2001), the multitalented artist who conceived the Moomins.
Nakaya Yuitsu, Monument - Kojiki (Okinagatarashi and Her Son), 2014
This exhibition focuses on art that deals with stories from books such as the Bible and the Kojiki, an eighth-century chronicle of Japanese myths and legends. After an artist’s imagination was sparked by a story and they closely studied the text, they created vivid images of its unique scenes and fictional characters. We carefully examine the artist's ingenuity. 1st Floor: The Art of Stories 〈Held Currently〉 2nd Floor: Various Colors of Glass / Aoki Mika, Aquarium of life and death / Enjoy Special One Piece
The entire museum will be closed from Feb. 16 to 20 while exhibitions are being changed.
