Snow upon Snow

Honma Kansai, Sapporo in the Snow: Overpass, 1948

Snow is inseparable from winter in northern regions. It is also a recurring subject in art, with countless works depicting snow and snow crystals. These images convey not only the beauty of snow but also its harsh and unforgiving aspects. This exhibition presents paintings, ukiyo-e prints, glass works, and ceramics centered on the theme of snow.

A Festival of Living Things: Émile Gallé’s Vision of Nature in Flora and Fauna

Flowers, insects, and animals: Émile Gallé closely observed living things in the natural world and produced glass works in which he invested their forms with poetry and ideas. Through depictions of plants and animals, this exhibition explores Gallé’s art, marked by a deep attentiveness to living forms and a rich use of symbolism.
