Collection Stories: Modern Japanese Art / Art Gallery Hokkaido In Commemoration of the 70th Anniversary of The Hokkaido Bank and the 30th Anniversary of Dogin Cultural Foundation Dogin Art and Culture Encouragement Award Winners' Exhibition / Enjoy One Special Piece

The modernization trend expedited from the Meiji era onwards extended to the art world, too, resulting in a period of pronounced reforms. Western art ideas and techniques gave the Japanese artists great impetus, and a variety of works reflecting the new age emerged. Here, the changes of the times captured in art are traced through paintings and sculptures.

With the aims of supporting artists connected to Hokkaido and providing the citizens of Hokkaido opportunities to appreciate art, the Dogin Cultural Foundation commends up-and coming artists with Encouragement Awards. Twenty-six artists have been awarded through FY2020. Works by the award winners are brought together to trace the past thirty years of art in Hokkaido.
