Overview
The Changing Image of Nihonga (Japanese-style Painting)
This exhibition, drawn primarily from the collections of the Toyohashi City Museum of Art & History and a number of prefectural museums in Hokkaido, focuses on a host of Nihonga (Japanese-style paintings) from the 1960s asnd later. These works, by artists such as Mikami Makoto Nakamura Masayoshi, and Kataoka Tamako, not only exerted a strong emotional impact on viewers, they also upset the entire Nihonga framework.

Art Nouveau Glass Works: Reflections of Nature
Émile Gallé took a great deal of artistic inspiration from nature. This exhibition, focusing on works from the Art Nouveau era in which Gallé (1846–1904) was active, presents glass expressions that reflect various aspects of nature.
The Shu Ogawara Museum of Art Collection: Art Gallery Hokkaido
The painter Ogawara Shu (1911–2002) was a major figure in the history of Western-style art in Hokkaido. Located in Kutchan, the town where the artist was born and saw out the rest of his life after the war, the Shu Ogawara Museum of Art conveys his artistic achievements. This exhibition introduces a few dozen of Ogawara’s most important works from the museum’s collection.
