The Kanda family settled in the town of Shikaoi near the end of World War ll. Graduating from a high school in Obihiro, the eldest brother, Kazuaki studied at Tokyo University of the Arts, then returned to Hokkaido to present his art mainly at open-call exhibitions. Three years younger than Kazuaki, Nissho learned oil painting from his brother and also exhibited at open-call exhibitions while working on the family farm. He passed away at the premature age of 32. This two-person exhibition, never realized while they were alive, highlights the bond between the two brothers, and their lives as artists on two different paths.
In conjunction with Painting by the KANDA Brothers: KAZUAKI and NISSHO, this exhibition features art from Hokkaido during the 1950's to 1970's, the time these two artists were active.
