WAKAYAMA Shizuko: Original Picture Book Art

WAKAYAMA Shizuko (1940–2024) is renowned for the illustrations she made for Teramura Teruo’s picture-book series I Am King! The artist spent her early childhood in Hakodate after evacuating there with her family during World War II. Her wartime experiences inspired her to create works that include the hope of peace. This exhibition examines the original works Wakayama made for picture books as well as other projects from her 60-year career as an artist.
