100th Anniversary ot the Birth of Yamashita Kiyoshi

a Retrospective

Yamashita Kiyoshi, Fireworks, Nagaoka, Hari-e, 1950

Designed to mark the centenary of Yamashita Kiyoshi (1922-1971), renowned as a wandering master of painting, this exhibition focuses primarily on the artist’s hari-e collages, including his signature piece Fireworks Nagaoka. Comprising some 190 works, the exhibition includes Yamashita’s childhood pencil drawings, late-period paintings, watercolors, ink drawings, and ceramics as well as related items such as the backpack and yukata that he brought along on his travels. Unlike TV drama series and film portrayals of him, the emphasis here is on Yamashita Kiyoshi the artist.

A number of masterpieces left by the artist Kiyoshi Yamashita.
The essence of Kiyoshi Yamashita, who continues to fascinate people even now, is spoken by voice actor Yuichiro Umehara in a soft tone.
